03.25.14.1 - Credit by Examination (CBE) Procedure

‚ÄčCredit by examination (CBE) shall be initiated and coordinated in the Student Records Office, and be administered according to the following procedures:

  • Determined on a case-by-case basis in selected program areas;
  • Completed prior to the fifth (5th) day of the term in which a student is currently enrolled;
  • Charged a credit by examination fee of one-half of the course tuition charge;
  • Tested only once for each course;
  • Successful completion identified on the College transcript by CBE (Credit by Exam) in addition to the course title;
  • Awarded credit based on the American Council of Education (ACE) recommendations;
  • Awarded credit only for courses included in the Saint Paul College curriculum in which the student is enrolled.

Procedural decisions will be based on the following:

  • credit will not be granted when a grade in a more advanced course within the discipline has been earned;
  • exams will not be provided for the purpose of repeating completed courses;
  • credit received is not eligible for financial aid or VA benefits;
  • credits earned by examination do not count toward Saint Paul College residency requirements;
  • credits earned by examination may not transfer to other colleges and universities as that is a decision of the accepting institution.
